I need a solution

Hi everyone.  I am an user of SEP 12.   Yesterday, I reviewed my "SEP Status" windows and detected that Proactive Threat Protection (PTP) and Network Threat Protection (NTP) are not updated (appear the indication "Waiting for updates").  So, I try to do it manual by the file SepLiveUpdate.exe... then I saw a black screen with the message "The SepLiveUpdate session encountered an error: failure initializing IPC TIM..., the error code is: 80040300".  What does it mean that?.

Hi All,

From the product and license guides for Netbackup 7.5 i understand that "NetBackup Enterprise Server, Master/ Media Server, UNIX (includes Solaris SPARC) is licensed PER TIERED SERVER"

Can anyone please explain what does per tiered server mean?

Hi All,

I want to implement VIP in NBU 7.6.1 environment. Before that I want fully understand this.Below are the Pros and cons I came across . Pls help me if I missed something else.

VIP offers a number of benefits:

  • Virtual machine auto discovery - Newly introduced virtual machines can be automatically selected and protected. This includes virtual machines that have been cloned, created from template or have been migrated into the VMware environment.

  • Storage affinity - With the advent of advanced VMware storage technologies such as Storage VMotion, virtual machines can not only be moved across ESX servers but they can also be moved from datastore to datastore. Virtual machine Intelligent Policy can automatically detect this movement and adjust backup processing accordingly.

  • Protecting advanced VMware technologies - VMware has created sophisticated virtual machine technologies such as VMware high availability (HA), cluster pools, resource pools, vApps, distributed resource scheduling (DRS), VMotion and many others. Virtual machine Intelligent Policy can be configured to automatically detect and protect virtual machines based on any combination of these VMware-specific designations.

  • Virtual machine logical definitions - Virtual machines can also be automatically selected for backup by logical definitions including VMware datacenters, folders, resource pools, virtual machine power state and more. Simply associate a virtual machine to one of these attributes and it is automatically backed up. This provides the ability to automatically prioritize virtual machine backups based on a specific or mission critical VMware attribute.

  • Faster backups - By spreading the backup load evenly across the physical VMware environment backup processing can be much faster because more simultaneous backups can be safely applied without unduly impacting any physical component.

    Drawbacks:

    1. Keep track of VM’s added through VIP.

Hello
I'm not very good at scripting (shell: bash or ksh).
I solice your help to a daily report of the backup environment.

a report listing all servers backed up by success and failure with its own police the error code in the last 24 hours and the other ... I would launch this script every day of the week.

Backup Exec and LTO-6 Drives

I need a solution

So, I am having some problems with some tape backups. I have a Symantec Backup Exec Appliance and an HP Proliant Server, both running Windows Server 2008. The BE Appliance is running Backup Exec 2014 and the HP server is running 2015. Both machines are running backups of mulitple other servers to Disk, and then duplicating to Separate HP LTO-6 Tape Drives (connected directly to the server/appliance via SAS cable). On both servers, the jobs will run fine for a while, then, randomly, I start getting Read/Write errors on the Duplicate Portion of the job. I have tried mulitple things to fix this, including cleaning tapes, new data tapes, uninstalling/re-installing the drives, etc. Eventually, it will get to the point where the tape drive will no longer hold a tape. If you insert a tape, new or old, it will try to read it for a while, then eject it. At this point, I will call HP and they will send me a replacement drive.....and the whole process starts all over. With the BE Appliance, I have replaced the drive that is connected to it MULTIPLE times. Recently, I replaced the entire Tape Drive Enclosure, including all power cables, SAS cable, SAS Card, etc. and the problem still returned. I have many other servers running Backup Exec and backing up to HP LTO drives, and they all run just fine. Only the two that are using LTO-6 drives have this problem.

Has anyone else had problems with LTO-6 drives? Does anyone have any advice?

This morning I received an email about the release of Symantec Client Management Suite 8.0. Unfortunately Symantec chose to use a mass-mailer-service from nexstra.com. Why can't you use an internal service or at least use your own domain name for links (including "read-online"-links).

When enterprises use such a service it becomes more and more difficult to distinguish between official bulk mail and phishing attempts. As a result people might dispose of official mail or become a victim of phishing. At the very least provide (easy to find) information on your website that you are using this specific service, i.e.:

Enterprise Vault Search results cannot be opened

We are experiencing this issue on few endpoints where after performing a search from Archive Explorer, we are not able to open any search result. Clicking on any of the search result email wont do anything and it just stays there forzen. No error is thrown.

Hi,

We are looking an option in Symantec Encryption Desktop to create an ElGamal  public key encryption and inner layer will be triple DES. I can see only two options in Symantec Encryption Desktop is Diffie Hellman and RSA. Kindly let me know if any option to create an ELGamal key.

Hi Team,

Please suggest, if I have 4 nodes and due to some network issue suddenly all 4 nodes down. 3 nodes came up but 1 node is not coming up.

So what would happen to vcs services.Does that run automatically or need to run it manually.

Please share the step by step activity.

Batch switch for Ghost 11.5.1 x32 and Ghost 12 x64 not working in batch file

I need a solution

I am not sure if anyone has experienced this issue or not. Our Configuration Center has been using Ghost 11.5.1 x86 (32bit) and Ghost 12 x64 for quite some time. For some reason when a batch file is used the -batch command will not allow the image to be deployed. Removal of the -batch will allow the image to deploy but requires the production technician to answer Yes to the Partition Sizes and Yes to the continue to deploy image question. Once the two questions are answered yes the image deploys successfully. My question is what could cause the -batch switch to no longer function after years of it doing so.

Here is the command being ran from the batch file that does not work:

ghost64 -ntil -clone,mode=load,src=Z:\Cust\CustomerAccountNumber\ImagePartNumberFolder\ImagePartNumber.gho,dst=1, -sure -fx -fis -autoname -batch -fnf

Here is the command being ran from the batch file that does work:

ghost64 -ntil -clone,mode=load,src=Z:\Cust\CustomerAccountNumber\ImagePartNumberFolder\ImagePartNumber.gho,dst=1, -sure -fx -fis -autoname -fnf

I need a solution

Hi All,

I have a customer who has a Win2012 R2 domain controller and a Win2012 R2 Exchange 2013 server. They own Backup Exec 2014 licensing and want me to set it up. I said we need a new server they say forget it...

Which is the lesser of two eveils here...ie...

Is Backup Exec supported on an Exchange \ DC and which is the lesser of two evils in terms of identifying which box to install BE2014 on out of these two options.

SERT on a Bootable USB Flash Drive

I need a solution

I've been looking around to find the latest information on how to put SERT on a bootable USB Flash drive.  All I can seem to find is the that information only being available for DVD's.  Times have changed, a large majority of computers come with DVD drive now days.  I am hoping Symantec didn't go backwards and make it only available for a DVD, help would be appreciated.
