Backup Exec 2012 media problem

I need a solution

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server running Backup Exec 2012. 

We have been using a Dell TL2000 LTO5 backup drive for the last few years successfully. I have just replaced this with a new Dell TL1000 LTO6 unit. This has installed in Windows successfully (no flags or faults in Device Manager) and I have ran the tapeinst.exe tool to pick it up in Backup Exec.I can see the unit successfully within the software and interact with it.

When I insert one of our new LTO6 tapes (pre-fitted with barcodes from the factory) and run a scan on the magazine slots, the barcode is successfully read and it shows up ok in Backup Exec. However if I try and run a test backup on a small folder (or any other backup operation) I get the following error:

"Media is unrecognized. The media labelled "from slot 9" read by drive "xxxxx" is written in an unrecognised format. Erase the media to make it stable".

Running an erase operation (normal or long) makes no difference. Trying a different tape makes no difference.

Any ideas?

I have symantec small business edition, i have noticed clients that do not connect are removed after a period of time. Is there any way i can change this on the edition i have. I do not have a domain menu or database option under servers.

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe eine SDR-Sicherung von unserem TFS-Server erstellt. Leider sind bei der Wiederherstellung des Server nicht die Microsoft SQL Datenbanken dabei.

Wenn ich die gleiche Sicherung in eine VM konvertiere sind diese fehlerfrei vorhanden. Bei der SDR Wiederherstellung über CD fehlen diese komplett.

Hat mir jemand einen Rat?

Backup Exec 15 Instant Recovery

Hi,

We are running BE 15 FP5 and vmware 5.5U1 (VCenter 5.5). We have 5 ESXI hosts.

We have installed this on a new server, migrated from a previous 15 FP5 install (which it didnt work on either). So we copied the catalogs and DB over and confirmed all working as it was before, except for the instant recovery on vmware.

We also have a hyperv 2012 R2 cluster. 

Using instant recovery, it works fine for hyperv.

When it comes to vcenter, the instant recovery screen that pops up has garbled text. It also appears to think it is hyperv too as in the corrupted text it states to update the hyperv agent to the latest.

Our vcenter based backups work fine, we can restore fine, however the instant recovery does not.

Even if you ignore the garbled text, if you select a host it successfully populates the fields below EG: datastore selection and nic selection.

This though only stays there for a few seconds before it wipes the selection out and the OK button never turns from greyed out.

Also note how it states at the bottom about the network card for hyperv will be disabled...

We have confirmed it is not anything to do with the catalogs by renaming the folder. We are reulctant to do anything with the database though as we dont want to create the jobs again as we have over 900 (we backup around 150 servers).

Any help is appreciated

Netbackup Admin Console 7.5 Fails to Start

I need a solution

Linux appliance NBU 7.5 Master is also the Media server. The Netbackup Admin console is installed on my W7x64 box. (And others) What happens is that when launching the NBU Admin Console, it gets stuck at "Login in Progress" but never connects and eventually fails. In the past, this has happened a few times but a reboot or services stop / restart cleared the issue. It is happening much more frequently now this issue. For example three times in two days. The NBU admin console freezes then goes into this not being able to login status until I reboot the appliance. any ideas or ways to fix this without rebooting the appliance or all the services?

Multiple backups of system state on Hyper-v guests slow.

Hiya

Where using Backup Exec 2010 R3 and we are backing up about 10 servers as part of a backup job.

The servers are a mix of 2008R2 and 2012R2 and several of them are Hyper-V guests.

We are not using the Hyper-V agent.

The backups are running at an acceptable speed until it comes to backing up the System State and this appears to be happening on the Hyper-V guests.

Some of the VMs have multiple Checkpoint(snapshots) will this affect the backup?

We have AOFO set to choose automatically and since we have not installed the Veritas VSS it will be using MS

Has anyone any ideas?

i had issue with some servrs that .have few servrs are not pingale and telnet . but backups are got completed. but we have few server are not pingable and telnet. windows team is asking why some servers backup got completed even which are not pingablle ,why some servers are not completed..ples suggest me

SSR2011 sometimes delayed offsite - no error

Hi all,

I have a strange problem.

The situation is as followes: The fysical server runs a hyperV version of w2k8r2. The client is a SBS2011 standard

There is always an USB drive connected to the fysycal server (in fact 2, that are being exchanged every week)

Each drive has its own driveletter (R and S so that the devices keeps that drive letter)

They are shared as \\hypervserver\R$ and \\hypervserver\S$ and are used as offsite copy!

On the SBS2001 runs SSR 2011 (latest with all updates) and it runs a backup of the SBS machine on an internal drive K:\ (that drive is an virtual drive on the hyperv server).

For many years it ran smoothly until sometimes the offsitecopy was not made. When the backup ran at 0.15 at night it normally also created offsite copy directly after it.

Every month when updates ran the server SBS 2011 needs to reboot.

The last 3 month the backup runs on the local K:\ drive but no offsite copy after a reboot of one of the machines (hyperv or SBS).

Very strange is that when I exchange the external drive, it does run offsite copy after the backup is created.

Last thursday I updated the servers and that night the same thing happened. I did NOT exchange the external drive and it took until saturday untill the offsite copy was triggered.

Very strange. The server is not very busy so I do not think that is the cause.

I already reset the backup three times. That is no solution!

Problem keeps coming back.

I do not see any errors..

Can somebody help me? I know that The VProSvc.exe (Backup Exec System Recovery Service) initiates the ftp Offsite Copy process. And that seems to run fine. ButI am not sure if that process also is used for SMB backup to a network share.

Help is appriciated

Boa noite, 

Estou com um erro aparentemente simples, mas que está causando a maior confução, não consigo completar o backup da solução pois está ocorrendo o erro abaixo, apenas nesta tarefa.

Já fiz os testes de credenciais, dão todas êxito, mas o erro ocorre de qualquer maneira no backup.

Alguém já enfrentou o este problema?

Hi

Our customer needs a solution to wipe the disks of some clients (which in effect are some cash desks ) with Windows 7 Embedded installed.

I recommended him the following article : https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO9581.html

He answered me, that there is no gdisk.exe on the clients. My question is.....Does the gpdisk.exe need to be on the clients or would the clients load it from the DS-Server?
When yes, is there any other solution with the Altiris DS 6.9 for doing this?

I need a solution

Hello,

I have posted two threads on Forums>Security>Data Loss Prevention, but I cannot find them anywhere.

The title is DC Agent on 100% CPU.

When I go to my account, then activity it is not showing, but when I go to points, I can see that they are posted.

When I open them, they appear as private. I tried checking certain groups with first topic and unchecking everything with second topic making it public. Both topics are the same, and don't show up anywhere.

Can you please tell me how to make public topics?

PS: I have one topic posted several months ago which is public. Didn't change anything in the meantime.

Removing System Recovery 2013

I need a solution

I'm not sure where to post this, but I'll start here.

I just picked up a new client that is running Symantec System Recovery 2013.  We un-installed the application and file servers with no issues, but the un-install toasted the SBS 2011 server.  What is the best way to remove the out dated software?

I have been having some problems with SSRD not recovering the MBR when backing up a hard drive. This is problematic when we go to restore the image to a new hard drive. Any thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong?

I need a solution

Hello Everyone,

I have backup exec 2015 version 14.2 installed on windows server 2012 R2, sometimes I have to cancel jobs and I can see 'Cancel Pending' status but it takes so long and never cancel it, so, I have to restart the backup exec services in order to take effects while there are another running jobs and I do not want to lose them.

Do you have any proper solution without restarting the BE services?
