Generate SEP v14 .slf key to SEP v12.1

Hello. I have got some question here. Currently I am using SEP v12.1. But the license was expired. I already purchase SEP v14 license. What happen if I just generate the SEP v14 license to SEP v12.1 instead of remove the old version first, then install the new version? Is it will working or not? Kindly need your assist. Thank you :)
